In the most strictest sense, it is the place where
you would nail the rafters birdsmouth cut to. In the case of a typical
framed house these plates will be located on top of the double wall
plate of the upper exterior wall and on which the ceiling/attic joist
rest on.
In some new construction where the attic space is incorporated into the living space this plate as been moved up to sit atop the the attic floor joists. |
